| The aim of “Hapi Bean” is to introduce soy wax candles to everyone and increase awareness of the choices that we can make to lessen our environmental footprint and lower our reliance on fossil fuel based products. There are news items daily discussing concerns about climate change and what we as a nation can do to slow it down. It feels like the realisation of what we have been doing to our world is finally, slowly, being acknowledged. Now I know candles aren’t exactly a necessity, but with the growing demand for organic foods and toiletries, and the awareness of the benefits of living an ethical and organic lifestyle increasing, I decided it was time for me to do do my bit. I know many people who burn candles regularly enough to cause dark sooting on their walls and ceilings….surely that is proof enough of the damage the average candle does? If it’s making our walls black, what must it be doing to our lungs! There are many differing views on the internet about the pros and cons of soy wax vs. paraffin wax and I have just about read them all. To me it is common sense that a paraffin candle (which is a by-product of crude oil and therefore a fossil fuel and a major cause of global warming) burning in our living room surely cannot be very good for us…whereas a renewably sourced soy candle that is pure, 100% natural, renewably sourced, biodegradable, and containing no GM or pesticide products is the far healthier optionfor both us and our environment. I do not consider myself to be an expert on climate change or candles. I am just an individual who cares about the world we live in and enjoys creating eco-friendly alternatives to enrich our lives and reduce the impact of fossil fuel products. As a new business I would be interested in any feedback or comment that you wish to share either about the candles I make or the literature I have written. |
